Our client is a significant player in the retail industry, operating in 10 countries with a network of over 1,000 stores. With annual revenues of $20 billion, this multi-national retailer manages a complex ecosystem of suppliers, distribution centers, and millions of monthly transactions. The client faced several significant challenges in managing its AR forecasting. The volume and variety of data, processing over 200 million transactions annually from various sources, posed a considerable hurdle. Data quality issues, including inconsistent formats, duplicates, and missing information, led to inaccurate AR forecasts. The existing batch-oriented system couldn’t provide real-time updates, hindering timely decision-making. Our Solution
We implemented a comprehensive data engineering and AI solution using the Databricks Lakehouse Platform to address the client’s AR forecasting challenges. Our approach leveraged Databricks’ unified analytics platform, combining data engineering, machine learning, and business intelligence capabilities. We utilized Delta Lake for a scalable data lake, ensuring ACID transactions and versioning for all of the client’s data. Databricks’ Auto Loader was employed for continuous data ingestion from various sources, while Delta Live Tables managed the data pipeline for real-time ETL processes. We implemented Databricks SQL for data warehousing and analytics, enabling fast queries across large datasets. For machine learning, we utilized Databricks’ MLflow to manage the entire ML lifecycle, from experimentation to production. We developed an ensemble model combining gradient boosting and LSTM neural networks using Databricks’ distributed machine learning capabilities.
